When selecting songs, it's very important to try and choose pieces that have some sort of connection and relevance between what is being sung and what is being taught in the sermon. There should be a level of consistency and harmony throughout the whole service.
The main thing is knowing what your specific responsibility is, and then seeing it as that - a responsibility, before the Lord, and towards your leaders and fellow church members, as you prayerfully select the most appropriate songs for your worship service.
It's important for us, as church musicians, to understand that false teachers and wolves in sheep's clothing do not just occupy the pulpit - they can also be found behind microphones in a worship team or as professing Christian songwriters.
